Hey! I did remember one of the reasons I have a blog: so I can post things like…dun dun DUN..: an earlobe update!! Are you excited, or what!? As you may recall, I went out in the very very cold last weekend to do a little run. Frosty cold earlobes and later remorse over my (possible) insanity ensued. Lesson learned: frostbite happens! Pay attention out there, and if something freezes, DON’T RUB IT. Ahem.
So, some rather itchy, hot earlobes developed, then began to heal. A little peeling, a lot of aloe vera, and I’m on the home stretch now. Are you ready to see my shiny new ‘lobes? OK, don't scroll if you're squeamish.
In fact, I'll insert more text here just to protect the squeamish among you:
Sorry to get all angst-filled on you in that last post. I do still think this is worthwhile, and DO value the connections that manage to happen. I just sometimes find myself succumbing to the urge to be over-attentive to my stats, the over-eager hoping for more comments, the commitment to post when I might be letting other things slide. The blog world CAN be lonely when you sit too long, typing alone, analyzing why or how you might get more visitors. Phooey on that; I’m glad whoever is here is here, and hey, if you want to tell more people about it, that’s great. But it’s ultimately up to ME to WRITE STUFF, eh?
OK, here it is:
Ewww! It's actually not that bad: I left the flakes on for effect. All better now. Fresh new (sensitive) skin. I'm really posting this as a public service: most of the stuff I saw out there about frostbite talked about how not to get it (duh) and how to properly thaw it out (which I didn't do). Not much about after-care or what normal, light damage looked and felt like. I feel silly that I did this to my poor ears, but it's really not that uncommon, especially among residents of the frozen north.
So. Now you know I AM REAL, at least my icky earlobes...

Yup, it doesn't get much more real than that... glad you 'ear' on the mend (oh, geez, did I say that out loud? I'm such a dork.)
PS I like the angst-filled posts every now and then - they're the spice of a blog.
Ow! Glad you're on the mend, though. And also, ow....
Ouch! But, you're braver than me. I'm too much of a wimp to spend any amount of time outside in this cold!
As for blogging angst, I'm a comment junkie myself. I have a few "regulars", and I even go so far as to think, if they haven't commented on my post by a certain time of day, that I may have said something to offend. But, it's definitely a community, something I like.
I am glad to see that your ears did not turn black and fall off. That is my association with frostbite, based primarily on horror stories of dubious origin... so, very happy to see you healing up!
Thanks for stopping by Henbogle. Glad you ears appear to be on the mend. I think chickens will be ok, don't know if the vaseline helped or not, but I figured it can't hurt.
I'm enjoying your blog. That post about serving Shrub made me laugh, as I too worked at a nursing home while in high school. To this day I can't eat pea soup!
I'm looking forward to reading the archives. Stay warm!

Wow....you certainly should wear an earflap hat, tied up under your chin!!
Also, loved hearing about your skating adventure! Once time, we went lake skating at night, and if you took your flashlight down to the black ice, you could see the fish and turtles swimming...slowly, but they were swimming...
oh, and please take your camera to town next time;-)...
hey! so what are the best steps in taking care of the frost bite??
I just got one on new years eve, 4 hours ago. This is how it happened, I was walking to the closest walmart (which is a 45min walk from my house) on my way out I noticed I dropped my skull cap, and as the lazy guy I am, I didn't feel like going back and looking for it. Instead I marched out, it was very cold n very very windy. By the time I got to a 500 meter near my house I felt my upper ear was ice hard. Its still red now and gradually swelling and it also hurts a bit.
What should i do about it?? hehe.. I m not kidding, this is not a joke!!
